A Short Break from Writing

I’m currently finishing up a 6000-mile road trip. I took my daughter to all of the states West of the Mississippi River that she hadn’t already been. That means we’ve been as far South as New Orleans, and as far North as North Dakota. It also means I’ve had less time to write. So I’ve been taking a short break from writing.

Breaks Are Good for You, No Matter What They Say

I’m writing this post from Bozeman, MT. We are on the final leg of the trip. The three pre-scheduled posts I wrote before we left have published, and I’ve got a little downtown to write this.

Of course, I haven’t been writing as much from the road. I’ve been driving 8-10 hours a day, and still teaching an online communication class. So I’ve set writing to the side during the trip. And I think I’m going to continue to take a short break from writing when I get home, too.

I’ve listened to the experts. And although they’ll tell you that you need to have some balance in life, they’ll also tell you that a break from writing and productivity is one of the worst things you can do. According to the blogging experts, I should be posting blog posts 3-5 times a week. But by now, you know that I don’t give a shit what they say.

How Long Is a Short Break?

I don’t know. Could be two days, two weeks, or two years. It’ll probably be on the shorter end. You might not even notice that I take a break. But after traveling for a few weeks, I’ll need to take care of some business around home before I start more creative projects.

See you somewhere down the road.
