My name is Dan Erickson.
I live in Yakima, Washington, and work as a community college teacher. I teach public speaking, mass media, and feature writing courses. I’m a single dad to an eight-year-old daughter, Annie. We love outdoor activities and summer adventures with our dog, Shep.
I started this blog because I love to write and I wanted to share my ideas and experiences as a writer with others. I especially want to encourage others to write as a form of therapy. I believe writing has the power to change lives.
A Train Called Forgiveness (2012) is my first published book and was written with the intention of studying the concepts of forgiveness and non-judgement. My second book, At the Crossing of Justice and Mercy (2013), looks at the concepts of justice, mercy, divorce, and mental illness. The third book of “The Cult Trilogy,” The Track to Redemption will discuss the concepts of reconciliation, grace, and redemption, and will be released in 2015.
I’ve also written and recorded over 100 songs in a variety of musical styles. You can listen to the Songs from A Train Called Forgiveness on the blog. I’m working on several other writing projects including a book of poetry and a mass media textbook. Blogged: Two years of poetry from cyberspace will be published later this year (2013).
I have a Master’s Degree in communication from Washington State University and have studied the persuasive tactics of new religious movements and protest movements, as well as the life and music of Woody Guthrie.
I have written guest posts for a variety of blogs incuding: Matt McWilliams’ Failing Forward, Dan Black on Leadership, Self Stairway, Life Letter Cafe, Monday is Good, Jospeh Lanlonde, Jon Stolpe, Elise Fee, and Pick the Brain.
